Image to blocks in three decisions

01

Pick a size

Measured in blocks across. 64 reads well from a distance; 128 is a statement piece. Height follows your image's aspect ratio — watch the 320 build limit.

02

Concrete or wool

Concrete: purer colors, cleaner image, the pixel-art default. Wool: softer look, and shearable in survival. Toggle between them and watch the counts change.

03

Build from the grid

Download the gridded plan, put it on a second screen, and build row by row. The counts panel is your shopping — or mining — list.

Build notes

Survival players: the material counts are the whole point — 4,096 blocks of mixed concrete is a lot of gravel, sand, and dye, and it's better to know before you commit. Concrete powder needs water contact to harden; bring a bucket, not patience.

Creative or server builds: work from the top-left of the grid, lay the first row completely, and count out loud. Every experienced map-art builder has a story about discovering a one-block offset forty rows in.

Image choice: logos, emotes, and game sprites convert almost perfectly. Photos work best cropped tight with a plain background — and if a photo looks muddy in concrete, try it in wool; the softer palette can flatter skin tones.

Questions people ask

Wool or concrete — which is better for pixel art?
Concrete for image clarity (purer colors, no texture noise), wool for survival practicality (renewable via sheep). Both palettes are 16 colors; toggle between them here and compare.
How many blocks will I need?
Width × height of your chosen size — a 64×64 build is 4,096 blocks. The counts panel breaks it down per block color for your exact image.
Does this make schematics or command blocks?
Not yet — it makes a visual build plan: gridded image plus material list. Schematic export (.litematic) is on the list; tell us if you'd use it.
Is my image uploaded?
No — conversion runs in your browser, same as every BlurThat tool. Load the page, go offline, it still works.
Just want pixel art, no blocks?
The pixel art converter does resolutions, palettes, Game Boy mode, and crisp PNG exports.
